Hi, I’m Jen, a fused glass artist based out of my own studio here in the Hill Country of Central Texas. My love for all things glass started as a youngster when I obsessed over stained glass windows, blown glass decor, and everything crystal. I have always been mesmerized with how light moves through color and texture. Over the years I dabbled in a few forms of art but have settled on my glass obsession with fused glass art.
Fused glass pieces are made with special art glass that is cut and assembled in varying patterns and then placed into a kiln where all the magic happens. The glass is slowly heated so that the solid, yet fragile, glass turns into a molten state and then moves while soaking in the heat. It is then cooled even more slowly to become a cohesive solid piece again. Many pieces require several trips into the kiln with extensive “cold working” or shaping in between each step.
You will see that I have done a range of pieces from jewelry, garden decorations, serving pieces, trinket dishes, artwork to display, ornaments, and more. No two pieces ever turn out exactly alike and the surprise of the kiln reveal is either captivating or heartbreaking. But even when it is heartbreaking the glass is only telling me it is time to pivot and to figure out what it wants to become.
Of special note, the J “logo” is actually my late father-in-law’s cattle brand which we have stamped in concrete all around our home.
Thank you for visiting my portfolio. I’d love to connect if you would like to learn more about my work or have something in mind that I can help come to life for you. Let me know your thoughts.
